Citronella Oil Java Type Cymbopogon winterianus Jowitt
The bulk of the traded citronella (leaf/ grass) oil, cymbopogon winterianus, also known as javatype, is distilled in Indonesia, China and Vietnam. The Sri Lankan oil differs in its composition and is traded in much smaller volumes. The grass needs to be dried before distillation otherwise the composition and yield is affected, hence production is low during the wet season.

Clove Leaf Oil Eugenia spp.
Clove leaf oil is the main source for eugenol. The two principal origins are Madgascar and Indonesia. Clove is cultivated for the buds destined for the spice market and the willingness of farmers to distill leaves is partly determined by how financially rewarding the preceding buds campaign was. The length of the wet season in Indonesia is also an important factor in the volume of production of oil.

Cognac Oil Green green lie de vin oil
Cognac oil green is a by-product of the wine making industry. The yield from the distillation of the lie de vin is very low, hence the oil price is high but it is used in small volumes because of its unique and highly potent odour. Shamelessly some producers add colourants to make it more green than that which naturally occurs from distillation through old copper stills.

Cognac Oil White white lie de vin oil
This oil, a by-product of the wine making industry, is used in small volumes due to its unique and highly potent odour. The yield from the distillation of the lie de vin is very low, hence the oil price is high. The white colour is due to the distillation in stainless steel equipment, whereas the green coloured oil results from the use of copper stills.
